Recruitment opportunities could increase across the country, as new survey results show companies are hoping to take on more staff during the first three months of 2014.
Hudson's Australia Hiring Expectations report for the first quarter indicates a rise in positive hiring intentions – they have increased 2.5 percentage points since the close of 2013.
This marks the first sequential improvement since the third quarter of 2010, which could prove good news for the nation's job seekers.
Some sectors are expected to recruit more heavily than others – the professional services sector emerged as having the highest proportion of employers looking to increase their headcount.
This was followed by information technology companies and non-profit organisations, both of which may find value in offering a training evaluation form to their new recruits.
Executive general manager of Hudson Australia Dean Davidson emphasised there is currently "cautious optimism" among the nation's employers, which is encouraging them to consider taking on new staff.
"However, organisations in Australia are continuing to focus on business transformation and reskilling their workforces to operate most effectively in today's tougher economic environment and this is driving demand for talent," he added.
The report identified some regional discrepancies in hiring intentions. For the second quarter in a row, South Australia has the highest number of managers hoping to increase their workforce.
Queensland and Western Australia followed closely behind, with the former seeing its positive hiring intentions lift 7.3 percentage points over recent months.
Hudson acknowledged that Australian companies are hoping to take on on people with the right skills for their chosen environment.
